سؤالالأسرة
I set an extra cup at iftar for him
I read the piece "A Quiet Dua at the Table" and it hit like an old song. My father and I have not really spoken in two years, not since that argument that ended with unread messages and a door left ajar. Ramadan used to be his laughter at suhoor calls, his way of insisting on extra dates. Now I make iftar and put an extra cup of tea by the plate out of habit, then eat in silence. The house smells like my mother's jollof and the chair stays empty. How do other people sit with this kind of silence during Ramadan, when every prayer seems to ask for what I can't give or receive?
