Finding Quiet in Prayer After Thirty Years
I found Allah after thirty years of not knowing how to look. My first attempts at prayer were clumsy, folding myself into a small kitchen at fajr with two cereal bowls still warm on the table. Once I prayed silently on a crowded bus, palms pressed shallow against a window fogged from my breath. A single text from a friend, a verse typed and then deleted, nudged me back the next morning. Lately prayer feels less like performance and more like answering a question I forgot I asked. I am still awkward, and sometimes grateful to be so. Has anyone else had a moment that made praying feel like coming home?
