I realized my faith is mostly my parents' culture
I grew up with my grandmother's du'as in the kitchen at fajr, the radio on low, and my mother folding a prayer rug the way her mother did. In Dakar everyone knows the smell of tea at dawn and the soft way my father would say, "Do it because it's our way." Lately I catch myself reciting things out of habit more than conviction. I can describe every family ritual but I cannot explain, in my own words, why I do them. I want a faith that is actually mine, not just my family's map. Has anyone else felt this? How did you begin to make your faith your own?
