Protecting Patients or Preserving Their Voices
I am Zakariya Osman, a retired doctor who spent forty years in clinics where I learned that healing is more faith than formula. Lately my granddaughter sent a text while I was on the 12A bus, asking me to write the stories I tell at our kitchen table at fajr. I want to leave a trace, honest and specific. But specific details feel like a betrayal of the trust patients placed in me, even decades later. If I change names and details I worry the story loses its soul, but if I keep them I worry I have crossed a line. Has anyone faced this kind of choice? Which way did you lean and why?
