Staying for Family or Chasing a Scholarship Abroad
I keep a small spiral notebook for duas, every answered prayer circled and dated. Last week, on the crowded bus home after afternoon labs, I read the page where I asked for a way to finish engineering. My phone buzzed. It was a text from my aunt with a proposal, saying someone in the family could help with rent if I stayed and married soon. Two hours later my inbox had the scholarship offer to study in Cairo, tuition covered for two years. At fajr my mother was in the tiny kitchen boiling tea, humming like she always does, and I could not tell if my chest felt heavier or lighter. I want to honour my family and my mother, but I also want to follow this opportunity. How do I choose between going and staying, when both feel like answered prayers in different ways? I would really like to hear if anyone has been in this place, or how you decided.
