When the stethoscope goes quiet, who am I now?
I am Zakariya Osman, a retired Egyptian doctor. Forty years at bedside taught me that healing is first a story of faith, then a prescription. Now the hospital ward is a memory, my old stethoscope sits in a drawer beside a stack of appointment cards, and at fajr I make tea in the same chipped cup a nurse once liked. Patients still text me little updates, and I find myself telling their stories to anyone who will listen, but I worry about privacy, meaning, and purpose. How do you carry the craft of a lifetime into something new, honest and respectful, without losing the dignity of those you once treated? I'd love to hear how others have navigated this shift.
