Every Eid my parents think I've turned away
I read that story here about thinking I was too busy to pray, and it hit me in a way I did not expect. I reverted three years ago in Rotterdam, and sujood gives me this calm I never had before. But my parents, who are not Muslim, took my change as a rejection. Every Eid the distance between us feels like it grows. I try to join their kitchen in the morning, but there is a silence, a left-on-read message, my father making coffee without looking up. I love them and I love this faith, and I don't know how to hold both without breaking them. How have others managed Eid with parents who feel abandoned?
