I bring up prayer and they pull further away
I sit on the kitchen step in the evenings and watch the prayer mat folded in the corner, the same mat my son used to kneel on at dawn. Lately his phone is left on the sofa, texts on read, and if I try to mention salah softly he shuts his bedroom door like a small apology. I catch myself saying too much, then sitting with regret, feeling like every mention is a tiny shove that pushes him further. I keep thinking of the market in Freetown where everyone calls out but still keeps their distance. Has anyone else been here, who has learned how to hold that worry without making the distance worse?
