I pray five times but my heart is distant
I live in Sarajevo and I have been praying on time for as long as I can remember. I get up for fajr, wash my face with the same chipped mug, rush to the tram, and make sure I am at the masjid for maghrib when I can. For months now, I go through the motions. My father taught me the postures, my neighbours recognise my steps, but inside I feel a hollow, like I am reciting someone else’s script. Part of me thinks I should keep the discipline and trust that the heart will follow. Another part wonders if continuing like this is dishonest and whether I should step back to find sincerity elsewhere. Has anyone been here? How did you decide what to do next?
