I refused double pay and keep second-guessing
I am a retired doctor. After forty years with patients I was offered a role that would have paid double anything I earned in public hospitals. On paper it was sensible. In the interview they kept talking about packages and patient turnover, and something in my chest tightened, the smell of the old clinic came back, the small honesty of sitting with someone at midnight. I said no. My wife nodded, her teacup cold on the counter. Since then I replay that call on the bus to the mosque, at fajr when the house is quiet. Did I throw away security for a feeling? Has anyone else turned down money because it felt wrong, and then felt foolish? I would like to hear your stories.
