Reverted last year and still feel tongue-tied at the masjid
I reverted last year and most days I feel grateful, but when it comes to salah I still trip over the Arabic and want to disappear. In the Sarajevo mosque I go to after work, the front rows are full of men whose mouths glide through surahs. I find myself holding back, praying at the edge, cheeks hot when my tongue stumbles on Al-Fatiha. Once an old man in the row ahead gently corrected my pronunciation and my face burned for an hour. I know faith is more than perfect words, but the embarrassment sits heavy. Has anyone else felt this way and how did you live with it day to day?
